Hamish & Andy
Hamish and Andy are an Australian comedy duo, consisting of Hamish Blake and Andy Lee.
The two were studying Commerce at Melbourne Uni when they met, and entered comedy competitions. Picked up by community-based Channel 31, their show was entitled Radio Karate, which caught the attention of Melbourne Seven Network boss Ian Johnson. Before long, they had their own program on Wednesday nights on Seven. This was a casual, talkative program mixed with sketch comedy. The show was received poorly by television critics and was promptly axed. Soon after the show's early conclusion, Hamish and Andy were offered a late-night experiment shift on radio station Fox FM, which they were not paid for. The station warmed to the duo, and inevitably they hosted the Saturday "Almost Midday" Show.
As ratings improved for the pair, it was announced that in 2006 they would have their own weekday drive program from 4-6pm. This show is also relayed in a highlights package on Saturdays throughout the nationwide Austereo network.
In 2006 the pair also starred in a Network Ten production, Real Stories. The show was a parody of current events programmes such as Today Tonight and A Current Affair, with mock news stories making the bulk of the content. It currently appears in re-runs Sunday nights after the newly reformatted Rove, on which the pair also appear. Hamish and Andy also appear somewhat regularly on Seven's improv show Thank God You're Here and ABC's music quiz show Spicks & Specks.
In 2008 their drivetime radio show was reported as being the highest rating radio program in the history of Australian radio and continues to dominate the airwaves.
During the running of the radio show they have gone on trips all across Australia, U.S.A and U.K while broadcasting.
They have recently revealed that from 2011 they will be reverting to one show a week, with the reason being to chase up new projects. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
